FAQ1 Answer: During my masters program (MSc Leading Sales Transformation) with Consalia Ltd and Middlesex University, London, I uncovered that the majority of change models available today are leaning more towards organizational change and not towards the individual's own journey for change. There are significant claims that nearly 70% of change processes fail as they do not focus on the individual who is to enact and see the change through. (Todnem, R. 2005), (Balogun & Hope Hailey 2004). This claim was further researched to find the source and evidence to support it by Dr. David Wilkinson (2020) Chief Editor of the Oxford review. His investigative and evidence based research led this popular claim that 70% of change management attempts fail, back to statements made by John Kotter - a well known change management expert. However, no where did John Kotter state that 70% of change management initiatives fail. What he actually said was that 30% succeed, and the rest are in between with many leaning towards the negative aspect of success. It's unknown who actually said the 70% claim. That said, the main supporting reason most efforts fail is because they do not focus on the individual and his/her needs as they are the ones expected to execute and carry out the change, (Joseph Galli 2018), (Mulholland 2017), (Todnem 2005).
FAQ2 Answer: It's true, there are multiple change models available for coaches and mentors to use on YOU. The argument is, where are the models available via "Self Help" for the individual to discover, uncover, and help themselves through personal change? SCARED-SO WHAT was designed for YOU.
FAQ3 Answer: Absolutely! While the models were designed for the individual to navigate their own way through personal change.
That said, SCARED SO WHAT can be used by COACHES, LEADERS, MENTORS and more. Either in a professional work place setting or a personal setting. Asking the SCARED SO WHAT ques as open questions without any advice given, is a great way to help you find your own answers. But remember, you can also use it by being your own coach, and asking yourself...Am I Surprised, Conflicted, What Actions have I taken..etc.
FAQ4 Answer: There are a multitude of change models. My research in the masters uncovered a deep review of the top models to include:
And many more models. They are all superb and excellent for what they were designed to achieve. In my literature review and research, I found most models were designed to be used by organizations ON their people.
Relatively few models were intended to be utilized FOR people.
Some of the models are very prescriptive in forecasting that you will feel negative towards the change, without permitting you to be excited for it or have your own personal choice. These models are beneficial. I must conclude that.
There is not one model I had found that can account for every change scenario. However, I believe SCARED-SO WHAT adds the greatest amount of flexibility to include Positive, Neutral, or Negative responses on your behalf and allows for complete rejection or acceptance of a change process. It then takes it a step further to help with "So What" can you do about the change with a planning template.
FAQ5 Answer: The graph at the bottom of the quiz gives you a snapshot of what you are feeling as a result of any possible actions you may have experienced.
If you have a lot of red in ACTION, that means you can possibly take more actions by asking questions, sending emails, asking for help and guidance in order to possibly help affect your decision making.
If you have a lot of red in EXPLORE options or opportunities, again, by taking more actions you can impact your overall opportunities that may be available to you.
If you have a lot of red in DECISION, that means one of two things. A) You've chosen to reject the change all together. You can possibly change this if you want to by taking more actions and or seeking to explore further opportunities. And if you do not want to and have decided to reject the change....now move onto SO WHAT will you do about it. OR B) you might be stuck in IN-DECISION, meaning you don't know what to do. Again, by taking more actions like asking questions, seeking advice, phone calls, discussions, reading, etc., you can possibly bring in more information to you so that you can possibly explore further options and hopefully come to a favorable decision.
If you have a lot of green in the areas, that is indicative of a favorable action or positive energy. Red is indicative of negative energy.
Remember: There's no right or wrong answer. YOU are in control of your thoughts about what you may be able to do as a result of the personal change situation you are in. The next important step is: SO WHAT will you do about it? That's where the SO WHAT template can be helpful. You'll see this at the bottom of the quiz page.
